We are happy to tell you we are now officially on loan with Mission Resources International. We are grateful for South America Mission’s gracious cooperation with MRI in making this a smooth transition. What does this mean for our supporters? You may continue to send your support through SAM as always – or you may also contribute to our ministry at the following address:

SAM will always be our family. The mission will continue to include us in its health insurance policy, and channel any support. We will be accountable to MRI in all areas of ministry. We definitely hope to continue to cooperate and work with SAM in any way we can, and will very likely be working with SAM personnel who are involved with "C".
So what in the world are we up to at the moment? After living out of a suitcase since the end of February, we can finally see the end of a journey. I am writing this from "PV". Tomorrow (April 25), Wes and I fly to "the North" area to find a house to rent.
It is “winter time” in PV – so say the seasoned missionaries. That means that at noon yesterday the temperature was only in the low nineties with humidity around 70%. We were told sympathetically that "the North" was really hot – with humidity 90%!! Elizabeth Elliot said that when her family could not say anything nice about a situation, they said, “Well!” Well!
Our car is already on a barge headed for "the North". We received strong advice to fly because of the drugs, prostitution and never-ending partying that is the norm for these barge trips. Sleep arrangements are in hammocks and no one is safe! We have learned since there is one line better suited to the staid and we hope to book passage on one of those when we return with our move. A young Christian encouraged us that the four-day trip on a “quiet barge” is a marvelous opportunity for a prolonged quiet time with God. That sounds like exactly what we need.
Our immediate goal is to find a house to rent in "I". This is a little town in a peninsula on the banks of the "S" River - twenty minutes on a commercial Ferry Boat out of "the North". Hopefully, we can get a Post Office box and an address. Then sometime between the 4th and 10th of May, we will probably be the oldest, greenest missionaries ever to arrive in the North.
Despite the apprehension you might see lurking in the lines of this letter, we have a sweet peace and assurance from the Father that we are totally safe – cast completely on Him. This morning I read in Isaiah 64:8, “But now, O Lord, You are our Father. We are the clay, and You are the potter, and all of us are the work of Your hand.” I guess if I were the potter, I would not use us or do mission work this way. But I am NOT the potter. He is. And He has given both of us the assurance that He chose us precisely because He has the skill and power to make useful vessels out of “has-beens”. Well.
How can you pray? Pray that we will become acclimated quickly so that we are not simply a new couple of Big Drips. Pray that the joy of the Lord will be our strength. Pray that we will not be tempted for one minute to “lean on our own understanding”. It just won’t cut it for this situation. Pray, pray, pray that our faithful God Who has never, ever let us down will be glorified through what is done. Pray that what emerges from what has been called a “green hell” will produce many citizens for heaven. Pray for safety from Malaria and Dengue – we are moving into highly endemic areas for these mosquito-induced diseases.
Don’t forget to PRAISE OUR AWESOME GOD for His tender care of us until now. “We stand amazed in His presence!” Thank you so much for hanging in there with us in faithfulness.
Yours because of His great love,
Trudy for both of us
